Xiaomi has started rolling out the MIUI 12 stable update for its popular, Redmi K20 and K20 Pro smartphones. The MIUI 12 update is Xiaomi's latest take on Google's Android OS which comes with a number of new features and visual upgrades over its predecessor. With its upgrades, MIUI 12 promises not only smooth performance but also enhanced functionality with the help of features such as an updated version of dark mode, AI calling, new privacy and security tools, multi-tasking features, animations and wallpapers.
MIUI 12 is being extended to the two Redmi phones via an over the air update, which should hit all devices in the coming days. The stable update comes after the company had previously rolled out a beta release of the software for the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro. With the MIUI 12, Xiaomi is being claimed to have made significant strides in many areas, especially privacy.
There are massive upgrades in the privacy department, with the OS now notifying users everytime an app attempts to access a sensitive feature such as the cameras, microphone, contacts, location and more. With the new update, users can now block access to such apps with a single tap.
Another interesting feature coming to the phones is the new Ultra Battery Saver mode that brings a minimalist homescreen with just the essential apps. This mode however is only activated when the phone is below five per cent battery. The new dark mode will also be of a lot of interest to users. With this new mode, third party apps too can run in dark mode on the phone.
Talking about the two phones, the Redmi K20 Pro is definitely the more powerful of the two devices. Even a year after its launch, the Redmi K20 Pro remains one of the safest bets within the price bracket. The Redmi-branded phone brings a mix of high-end hardware and features at a starting price of Rs 26,999, making it a very good buy even after a year of its launch. The phone comes with a 6.39-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. There's an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor that powers the Redmi K20 Pro.
For photography enthusiasts, the smartphone gets a main 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor at the back, supported by a 13-megapixel secondary snapper, and a third 8-megapixel shooter. There is a 20-megapixel selfie camera sitting on a motorised slider. The Redmi K20 Pro is fuelled by a 4000mAh battery that charges at up to 27W.
