- Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max have been launched in India
- The two smartphones differ slightly in price and specs
- Of the two, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is being pegged as the more powerful smartphone
Chinese phone maker Redmi has taken to the Indian smartphone market to launch two new smartphones, the Redmi Note 9 Pro and the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. The two smartphones start at Rs 12,999 and go all the way up to Rs 18,999.
The successors to the Redmi Note 8 series were finally launched at an online event after the company decided to cancel the mega event it had earlier planned for the two smartphones.
The launch of these two phones has added to the already densely populated sub Rs 20,000 segment of the smartphone market. While it'll be interesting to see how the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max compare to other offerings in the segment, it is probably more important to figure out which of two is the phone for you.
So read on to figure out how the two phones differ in terms of specs, features and price.
Redmi Note 9 Pro vs Redmi Note 9 Pro Max: Specifications
Despite differing starkly in terms of their monikers, the two phones don't differ too much when it comes to the hardware onboard. As it stands, the two share a lot of the core hardware and ever so slightly when it comes to cameras and charging technology.
The two phones come sharing the same massive 6.67-inch display which can churn up to Full HD+ resolutions (2400x1080). The panel used here is IPS in technology and boasts of 20:9 aspect ratio and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
They also come with the same chipset, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G ticking at their core. This 8nm fabricated chipset houses an Adreno 618 GPU for improved performance in games. However, the chipset has been paired to up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage on the Redmi Note 9 Pro and up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage -- expandable by up to 512GB -- on the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.
Redmi Note 9 Pro vs Redmi Note 9 Pro Max: Cameras
The other big point of differentiation between the two phones is the fact that they bring slight differing camera set-ups. While on paper both the smartphones feature powerful quad cameras, the configuration of the lenses is different on both.
This is because the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max gets a 64-megapixel primary camera sat next to an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 5-megapixel Macro lens and a 2-Megapixel depth sensor.
On the other hand, the Redmi Note 9 Pro gets a 48-megapixel lens-based quad camera. The primary lens is a Samsung ISOCELL GM2 with support for technologies such as PDAF and Super Stablisation. Sat next to it is an 8-Megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 120-degree field of view. The camera set-up also brings a 5-megapixel lens for clicking macros and another 2-megapixel one for depth sensing.
The two also differ when it comes to selfie cameras, with the Redmi Note 9 Pro getting a 16-megapixel AI camera for front-facing pictures, while the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max gets a 32-megapixel lens for the same.
Redmi Note 9 Pro vs Redmi Note 9 Pro Max: Battery
Again, there's an ever so slight difference between the two phones in the battery department. Although, on paper, the configuration looks exactly the same -- 5020mAh battery tasked to run the device --, however, in the real world the usage of the two would be very different because of the difference in their supported charging standards.
While the two should give you the same battery life and endurance, the fact that the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max brings a much faster 33W fast charging standard -- over the Redmi Note 9 Pro's 18W fast charging support -- would mean that the Max variant would become a much more convenient phone to use on a day to day basis.
Redmi Note 9 Pro vs Redmi Note 9 Pro Max: Price
Arguably the most important factor of differentiation between the two phones is their price.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is available in three configurations with the first one being available with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, while the upper end one being made available with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There's also a mid variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage.
For the price, the lower end variant starts at Rs 14,999 While the upper-end one will be available for Rs 18,999. The mid variant will be available at Rs 16,999. The three variants can be bought in three new colours -- Aurora Blue, Glacial White, and Interstellar Black Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.
The Redmi Note 9, on the other hand, will also be available in the same three colours, but up for sale only in two variants -- 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB. The price of the Note 9 Pro starts at Rs 12,999 and goes up to Rs 15,999 for the upper-end variant.
