Oppo is reiterating its positioning as the 'selfie smartphone' in the market with its newest launch - the Oppo F1s. It features a 16-MP front-facing camera and a 13-MP rear camera with LED flash. The camera app is neat and simple, and reminds one of iPhone's camera app.
At the bottom are various modes including Time Lapse, Video, Photo, Beauty and Panorama, accessible to the front-facing camera as well. Flash settings and HDR mode have been added to the top.
For capturing images, Oppo has also added voice command and hand gestures. When the voice command is activated, photos will be taken when one says 'cheese'.
Similarly, the camera app also recognises palm movements for capturing images which is slightly difficult to master as it takes time to work. The images captured from the rear as well as the front camera look good.
The phone instantly locks focus and captures images quickly. Images are sharp and colours look natural. However, both the cameras stumble when it comes to low light photography; the noise is hard to miss.
But the selfie camera on the Oppo F1s is one of the best I have seen. Videos can be captured in 720p and 1,080p resolutions only.
The Oppo F1s has a metal body with curved edges. The front has a glass finish with a 5.5-inch HD display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. However, the display doesn't look rich or super bright.
There is a home button below the display with a fingerprint scanner embedded in it. Volume controls are on the left, whereas the power key along with the SIM slot tray is on the right edge. There are speaker grills on both sides of the charging port, and also a 3.5-mm audio jack. The design is elegant and the phone is comfortable to hold.
Oppo F1s runs on Color OS 3.0 UI based on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system (which is outdated, as we are moving towards Nougat update) and is powered by a MediaTek MT6750 processor paired with 3 GB of RAM. The phone was smooth to use. Apps loaded quickly and handled games with ease. The internal storage is 32 GB out of which 25.09 GB is user accessible. Memory is expandable as it also supports microSD card.
