  • Xiaomi is reportedly working on a Mi 10e phone
  • The new Mi 10 series device could get a Samsung Exynos chipset
  • The phone has been listed on Geekbench with its specs

Over the last few weeks, Xiaomi has been busy populating its flagship Mi 10 series with new phones. The company recently added the Mi 10 Youth and Mi 10 Lite to the series, and now, it reported to be working on a new device for the series.

As per reports, a new Mi 10e has surfaced on Geekbench with a rather surprising inclusion of an SoC that it has not used before. The listing claims that the device will come with an Exynos 990 chipset which for the uninitiated has been used previously on Samsung's flagship S20 series of phones.

Interestingly, the chipset has received a lot of flak in the last few months for its choppy performance. As such, it is quite surprising to see Xiaomi even think about using it on one of its phones. Especially because it's not only slower than the Snapdragon 865 chipset, but in some cases to the much cheaper MediaTek Helio G90T also.

As per the listing, the Mi 10e has received benchmark scores that are quite close to what the S20 series has in the past. In the single-threaded test, the phone scored 913 points, and in the multi-core one, the Samsung Exynos 990 single-chip system phone scored 2755 points. The Geekbench listing also confirms that the new product is equipped with 8GB of RAM and runs on the Android 10 operating system.

The report also comes at a time when Samsung has been reported to be working on a new processor -- Exynos 1000. This chipset has seen its specifications leaked in the past, and unlike other Samsung processors, it uses AMD's RDNA GPU technology which will replace the existing Mali GPU.

The switch to this new technology could have led to Samsung selling the Exynos 990 chipsets on the cheap, which Xiaomi possibly snapped up to maintain costs without losing the flagship tag for the Mi 10e. However, this is all speculation for now, with more detail on the phone expected to be made available in the coming weeks.
