Smartphone maker Samsung was rumoured to be working on a toned-down version of the Samsung S20 series called the S20 Lite. The speculated smartphone has now appeared on the Geekbench website. The Samsung S20 series currently has three variants including the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra.
As per the listing on Geekbench, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Lite was spotted featuring the model number SM-G781B. The listing also revealed that device could come with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor which will have a speed of 1.8Ghz. This shows that the Lite moniker doesn't mean compromised specifications, it would be as good as the S10 Lite, which in many ways would be its predecessor.
The leaks also reveal that the Galaxy S20 Lite will feature 6GB RAM along with the Snapdragon 865 SoC. It will run on Android 10 operating system layered with One UI 2.0 skin, as seen in most Samsung devices launched in the recent past.
As far as the Geekbench score is concerned, Galaxy S20 Lite has managed to clock 737 points in the single-core performance test and 2,619 points in the multi-core performance test.
All the information is based on the leaks and speculations that we have obtained, Samsung is yet to make an official announcement about the same. It is also not clear whether Samsung would call it the Galaxy S20 Lite or Galaxy S20 Fan edition. Interestingly, all the smartphones in the Samsung S20 series are powered by the company's Exynos 990 SoC but this rumoured device might break the mould and opt for a more performance-rich processor, the Snapdragon 865 SoC.
Currently, the smartphones that house a Snapdragon 865 SoC include all the flagship devices such as the OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8, Xiaomi Mi 10, OPPO Find X2, Moto Edge Plus and Vivo IQOO 3 among others. It would interesting to see Samsung's speculated Lite version of the Galaxy S20 series features the insides of the high-end devices.
Samsung has an unpacked event lined-up for August 5, where the company is expected to launch a series of flagship devices including Samsung Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Note 20+, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Z Flip, Samsung Galaxy Tab S7/S7+, Samsung Galaxy Buds with ANC and Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. The launch would be an online-only event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
