Sony is all set to host a major launch event on April 14. The Japanese electronics giant is expected to launch the new Xperia 1 III flagship smartphone alongside the Xperia 10 III and an Xperia compact phone at the event.

The Xperia 1 III is likely to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 888 chipset and will feature a 12GB/256GB RAM and storage configuration, although there will be a premium 16GB/512GB version too. The display will be a 6.5-inch OLED 21:9 CinemaWide 4K HDR display, which is the same as the predecessor. The bezels on the front are expected to be slimmer. The smartphone is said to come with a metal frame and a glass back.

Its 4K HDR panel is expected to support 10bit colour with a 120Hz refresh rate, similar to the Xperia 5 II. The peak brightness is 1,300 nits on par with modern OLED smartphone displays.

There's some news around the camera system of the Xperia 1 III as well. It seems that for the first time, Sony has decided to go along the periscope route. The Xperia 1 III will sport a triple rear camera setup with ZEISS optics with lossless zoom. However, the exact camera specifications are still unknown.

The Xperia 10 III is expected to sport a 6-inch 21:9 aspect ratio CinemaWide with no punch-hole or notch display, which will likely come with an FHD+ resolution. It will have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, front-facing stereo speakers, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Xperia 10 III will also have a triple rear camera setup, a 12-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide, and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera, same as the predecessor. We can expect a mid-range Snapdragon SoC, which could be Snapdragon 690 5G based on earlier rumours.

Sony is also expected to launch an Xperia Compact phone, however according to some reports, this will not be a flagship phone like earlier flagship compact phones in the Xperia Z and Xperia XZ series with top-end specifications, instead this will be a budget phone powered by Snapdragon 480 5G SoC.

We will know the complete specifications of the smartphones at the launch event for these new Xperia devices, which is scheduled for April 14 at 13:00 IST.
