BSNL and Jio Rs 247 prepaid plans offer 30 days validity, how are they different

BSNL gives 3GB daily data with its Rs 247 prepaid plan. Jio offers no daily data limit with its new Rs 247 prepaid plan. Here is how they compare against each other.

Story highlights
  • BSNL offers a regular prepaid plan at Rs 247 that gives 3GB daily data.
  • Jio recently introduced a prepaid plan at Rs 247.
  • Airtel has increased the benefits of its Rs 349 plan and Vi gives double data with its Rs 299 plan.

Government-owned telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) revamped the benefits of its Rs 247 prepaid plan some time back. The plan offers 30 days validity, which the private telcos are only currently aiming to achieve with the launch of bulk data plans that give month-long validity or in the multiples of that to users. The plan also offers 3GB daily data with unlimited calls and SMS benefits. At this price point, the RS 247 plan is one of the most beneficial prepaid offers for users who do not mind compromising a bit on speed.

Coming to Jio, the telecom giant last week launched a Rs 247 no daily data limit prepaid plan, also with a validity of 30 days. No daily data limit means users can use much data as they want in a day without any limit. However, Jio is only giving 25GB data with this plan, which is much lesser than the 90GB being given by BSNL. The plan also gives 30 days validity, unlimited calls and access to Jio apps.

However, looking at Jio's regular plans under Rs 300, the telco offers a prepaid plan at Rs 249 that gives 2GB daily data. This prepaid plan has a validity of 28 days and offers 2GB data per day, total data of 56GB. The plan also brings unlimited domestic calls from Jio to any network. The plan gives 100 free SMS per day with a complimentary subscription to Jio apps. Despite being a regular prepaid plan, it offers less data than BSNL's Rs 247 prepaid plan.

Under the Rs 300 price point, also comes Vodafone Idea's or Vi's Rs 299 double data prepaid plan. Because it is a double data prepaid plan, it offers 2 plus 2, 4GB daily data for 28 days along with a weekend rollover data benefit that lets users accumulate data on weekdays and use it together on the weekends, which can come in handy for streaming. This plan gives 4GB of data per day for 28 days with unlimited talktime. Users also get Rs 125 assured bonus cash to play their favourite games on MPL with Rs 75 daily discount, on food orders from Zomato with Vi Movies and TV access.

Speaking about the benefits, Airtel is now giving 2.5GB daily data with its Rs 349 prepaid plan that gives access to a month of Amazon Prime with unlimited calls and SMS. This plan also gives unlimited calling and 100 SMS per day. This prepaid plan comes with a free subscription to Amazon Prime, users must note that the validity of Amazon Prime will last till the validity of the plan, which is 28 days. Additional benefits of this plan include Airtel XStream premium, free hello tunes, Wynk Music, free online courses, and Rs 100 cashback on FasTag.
