Several Sony PlayStation 5 buyers, earlier this week, alleged that Flipkart asked them to cancel their already placed orders for the gaming consoles. The e-commerce major has now responded to these claims in a new statement.
Flipkart denied the allegations, saying that it has not asked any of its customers to cancel their PS5 orders. Instead, the company claimed that it has only informed customers of a delay in their delivery at certain locations. The company cited the ongoing localised lockdowns as a reason for these delays. It also promised to work towards delivering these orders at the earliest.
The statement, however, does not fall in line with what the customers have been posting online about the whole incident. The issues have been recorded with orders placed during the May 17 sale of PS5 on Flipkart. The e-commerce retailer told IGN India about the issues.
Taking to social media platforms, several of those who were able to order a PS5 unit through Flipkart claimed that they received calls from the company pushing them to cancel their orders. These calls made by the Flipkart customer care representatives offered a Rs 500 coupon to these customers as compensation for the order cancellation.
These customers were, in turn, asked to place the order for the gaming console all over again. An email by Flipkart customer support sent to one such customer has also been shared by IGN India. The mail clearly asks the customer to cancel his order citing a delay in its delivery. It further states that any price difference (if faced) during the reorder will be compensated for.
Some users even claimed that their PS5 orders were delayed with no explanation whatsoever. These users apparently received no such email or calls from Flipkart, as mentioned above, informing them of an order delay or cancellation.
The report mentions that Flipkart had the highest pre-orders on May 17 for the PS5 among all platforms on which the gaming console was listed. It is hence speculated that the sheer volume of these pre-orders did not match the stock availability as predicted by Flipkart. This is the only possible explanation for the seemingly real order cancellations on Flipkart's sides that the company so outright denies.
