JioPhone Next price could get more expensive than expected owing to its delay in launch, according to analysts. There is no official word on the pricing of the upcoming device from the telco as of now. Google-backed Jio Phone Next was announced at the 44th Annual General Meeting earlier this year. The smartphone was supposed to launch on September 10 but a day ahead of its launch, the dates were pushed ahead to Diwali owing to industry-wide semiconductor shortages. Jio and Google noted that they have made considerable progress towards the launch of JioPhone Next and that the companies have begun testing JioPhone Next with a limited set of users for "further refinement."

Jio in the past has claimed that it will be the cheapest 4G smartphone in the country and the JioPhone Next was expected to be under Rs 5000. However, according to a report, the JioPhone Next is likely to get expensive due to delay in its launch.

Analysts told ET Telecom that the price of components has increased by 20 per cent along the time to procure components have increased from eight weeks to almost 16 to 20 weeks for some components. Analysts also noted that the JioPhone Next could have a limited shelf life unless the telco starts focussing on new SKUs for the next year and the availability and price of the components are likely to remain challenging for the next 6-8 months.

JioPhone Next is not a successor to the JioPhone and JioPhone 2. Apart from running a custom version of Android, the JioPhone Next comes with features like Google Assistant, automatic read-aloud and language translation for on-screen text, and a camera with India-centric filters.

As per several leaks, JioPhone Next is said to have a 5.5-inch HD display. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 215 chipset and paired with 2GB/3GB RAM and 16GB/32GB of onboard storage. The device could sport a single 13-megapixel rear sensor and an 8-megapixel shooter. In addition, the JioPhone Next could ship with a 2500mAh battery. Reports in the past have noted that Jio has partnered with multiple banks to bring down the initial pricing of this device so users can avail of the JioPhone Next at a nominal amount of Rs 500 and pay the remaining amount in installments over a period of time.
