Story highlights
  • Apple may launch the MacBook Pro with M1X processor in Q4 2021.
  • According to a tipster, the MacBook Pro launch may accompany the debut of new Mac mini.
  • The M1X-powered MacBook Pro was earlier rumoured to debut at the WWDC.

Apple MacBook Pro may see an M1X upgrade later this year, according to a new leak. There were rumours around the launch of a new MacBook Pro, featuring a new design and a new Arm processor, at the now-over WWDC. Apple did not launch the new MacBook Pro at WWDC. However, the YouTube video for WWDC did confirm that the M1X MacBook Pro was in the pipeline. A tipster has now claimed that the impending launch of the MacBook Pro with an M1X processor may now take place sometime in the fourth quarter of 2021.

According to an iOS developer who goes by Dylan on Twitter, the M1X-powered MacBook Pro has not gone up in smoke. In fact, the 2021 MacBook Pro may arrive in Q4 2021. Accompanying the M1X MacBook Pro will be the Mac mini and it will also use the improved version of the M1 chipset. The launch will take place in either October or November, according to the tipster. This is in line with Apple's tradition of launching new MacBook models every year. While the MacBook Pro and Mac mini are seemingly coming in Q4 this year, there may be an M1X-powered iMac Pro that will not arrive, if we believe the tipster.

There is nothing official -- so much as a hint through a YouTube video or the like -- about the M1X-powered MacBook Pro and Mac mini, though. Apple launches new MacBooks after its iPhone launch event sometime in October or November, but there is no clarity right now.

Dylan's claim refutes a previous Bloomberg report. According to the report, the MacBook Pro may arrive sometime during the summer. A possible window to that was WWDC, but Apple did not make any MacBook related announcements back at the event. The live stream video on YouTube, however, did corroborate the leaks when "m1x" and "m1x macbook pro" hashtags cropped up in the metadata. That confirms the MacBook Pro with M1X, at least, is happening.

Bloomberg reported earlier that the M1X MacBook Pro will bring a new design, inclusive of an HDMI port and an SD card reader. The M1X MacBook Pro will come in 14-inch and 16-inch variants, both of them having a set of distinct specifications. The biggest jump here is going to be in performance because, according to Bloomberg, the chipset will have eight high-performance cores and two power-efficiency cores. The M1X is likely to feature up to 32 GPU cores and support 64GB of RAM. This means a more powerful processor than the M1, and definitely a lot better one than Intel chipsets on MacBook Pros.

Besides, the M1X MacBook Pro is also expected to feature a Mini-LED display and mark the return of HDMI and SD card slots. The design of the new MacBook Pro is also going to look different, or rather better than what you see on existing ones. Rumours suggest a modern industrial design for the MacBook Pro for this year.
