Apple did not launch an iPad mini since 2019. The iPad 5 mini was the last in the mini-series. However, the wait seems to have come to an end as Cupertino-giant is rumoured to launch the iPad mini 6 later this year. Several authentic sources have confirmed that Apple will launch the iPad mini along with a modified iPad Pro but the date has not been decided yet. Now, tipster, Jon Prosser has shared renders of the purported iPad Mini 6 that sort of confirms the rumours that have been going around for a while now.
A report by Bloomberg had earlier claimed that Apple will launch a redesigned iPad Mini later this year with smaller bezels. The latest renders have sort of confirmed the claims by Bloomberg. "The updated iPad mini is planned to have narrower screen borders while the removal of its home button has also been tested," the report claims.
In renders shared by Jon Prosser, the iPad mini 6 can be seen flaunting the same design as the iPad Air, iPad Pro but the size is smaller compared to the iPad Air. The renders also show the device in multiple colours. Apple will probably do away with the home button in the iPad mini and reduce the bezels to make way for a larger display.
"Yes, the home button has been removed in favour of a larger screen fitting inside nearly the same footprint as the previous iPad mini. In fact, I've been told that there's only a 3mm difference between the footprint of this new iPad mini, and the last. iPad mini 6 sits at 206.3mm x 137.8mm x 6.1mm," Mark German had confirmed.
The report by Fronpagetech reveals that the Touch ID has been moved to the Power Button. At the bottom, the device features a USB-Type C port along with speaker grilles. It will also come with support Apple Pencil but not the one that is available in the market now. Apple may launch a smaller Apple Pencil soon. The iPad mini 6 will be available in three colours including silver, black and gold.
As far as the specifications are concerned, the iPad mini 6 could be powered by the A14 Bionic chipset or the new M1 chipset that powers the iPad Pro.
