Story highlights
  • Apple iPhone SE is speculated to launch in the first half of 2022.
  • The device will offer 5G connectivity for the first time in the iPhone SE series.
  • It will likely carry the same design as the present variant of the iPhone SE.

The next generation of iPhone SE has long been hinted at and is expected to mark its debut in the global markets of Apple next year. Reiterating its existence, a noted analyst has now mentioned two important upgrades that the new iPhone SE will carry.

It is speculated that Apple's next iPhone SE model will come with an upgraded processor than what is seen in the current model. The prediction has been made by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a new report.

The upgraded processor will also help the budget iPhone to get 5G support. This would be a major upgrade for Apple, as it will offer 5G connectivity to its fans on an entry-level iPhone for the first time.

Kuo's recent speculation comes months after he first predicted the existence of the new iPhone SE back in March. At the time, he mentioned a 2022 release for the iPhone. Kuo reiterated the same in the recent report, stating that the iPhone SE (5G) will arrive in the first half of next year.

He also doubles down on the design predictions for the smartphone. As per Kuo, the 2022 iPhone SE will have a similar design as that of the existing 4.7-inch iPhone SE. This seems likely as Apple means to sell iPhone SE as an entry-level device for those looking to get into the iOS ecosystem. It is thus more likely to focus on optimum performance than design at that price point.

This means we can expect to see the same small screen form factor with bezels all around, a fingerprint sensor at the bottom and a selfie shooter at the top. As for performance, we can expect significant improvements through the new processor.

Apple's A13 Bionic chip powers the current model (second generation) of the iPhone SE. An upgrade might mean that Apple introduces its A14 Bionic chipset on the upcoming iPhone SE.

Other than this, the device will offer a faster connectivity experience thanks to the 5G support. The upgrades are worthy enough to make the iPhone SE 2022 an attractive proposition for those looking for an entry-level iPhone.
