What is the best way for a phone to convince users and consumers that it can do something? Doing that very thing. This is exactly what OnePlus 8T 5G has achieved with a short film, featuring Kalki Koechlin. The short film called Stop At Nothing, written by Kalki, has been shot entirely on the OnePlus 8T 5G.
Of course, it is a promo film for the OnePlus 8T that was launched in India recently at a rather aggressive price of Rs 42,999. The title should tell that much. Stop At Nothing sounds almost like Never Settle, which is the OnePlus motto. But it doesn't take away from the fact that the entire video was shot on the OnePlus 8T 5G and that the phone does a fabulous job of shooting some challenging segments.
The video shows Kalki talking of digital distractions a hint that OnePlus Zen Mode is going to feature somewhere in the video and how social media, constant notifications and the digital life is messing up with our minds. What makes it a challenge for the OnePlus 8T, or for that matter any phone, is the varied lighting in the scene, the high dynamic range, and the low light.
In terms of recording details, the video shows that the OnePlus 8T does a good job considering the low light. But not spectacular. Though to get spectacular, you will probably have to move to a proper DSLR or a mirrorless camera both of which have huge image sensors. In everything else, for example colours, stabilisation see the segment where Kalki is moving and dealing with highlights and shadows, the OnePlus 8T does great. In particular, the scenes where Kalki is in the spotlight and the shadows of alphabets move across her are lovely.
It seems that OnePlus deliberately chose low light scenes with lots of deep shadows and sharp highlights to showcase the video recording capabilities of the OnePlus 8T. And that is something laudable because these are quite difficult scenes. Some other phone maker looking for an easy way out might have just shot a slowed-down video footage of a dog playing under a sharp sunshine.
OnePlus hints that all video recording features of the OnePlus 8T camera were used to shoot Stop At Nothing. And this is something we can see in the video. There are portions where the OnePlus 8T makes good use of new Video Portrait Mode, improved stabilization systems, focus tracking and ultra-wide video to create desired effects.
Talking of the camera system in the OnePlus 8T 5G, the phone features four rear cameras. The main camera uses a 48-megapixel image sensor. Then there is a camera with ultra-wide-angle lens featuring a 16-megapixel image sensor. The camera system also has a 5-megapixel macro lens camera and a 20-megapixel monochrome camera.
The phone is powered with Snapdragon 865 processor, and we found that just like other OnePlus phones, this one too is extremely fast. There is 8GB RAM and 128GB storage in the base variant. On the front is a 6.5-inch screen with FullHD+ resolution. Unlike some other phones in this price range such as the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, which come with a plastic body, the OnePlus 8T uses a metal and glass body.
