Story highlights
  • Realme GT Neo 2 launch is going to take place on September 22.
  • The Realme GT Neo 2 will be meant for hardcore players, the company said.
  • Rumours suggest a Snapdragon 870 SoC and 65W fast charging.

Realme has confirmed the launch date for the GT Neo 2 smartphone. The GT Neo 2 is coming on September 22 and it will be the company's next Snapdragon 870-powered phone. The GT Neo 2 is a direct successor to the GT Neo that the company launched earlier this year in China, but elsewhere, the phone is called the Realme X7 Max. And if Realme chooses to launch the GT Neo 2 in markets outside of China, a name like Realme X8 seems unlikely because the company confirmed the GT-series is the new X-series.

In a poster on Weibo, Realme confirmed that the GT Neo 2 launch event will take place at 2 pm local time on September 22. Now, Realme is giving away a few details about the upcoming phone. For example, it will be meant for "hardcore players", but there is not much in terms of exact specifications. But for those things, we have rumours aplenty. Previous rumours have suggested that the GT Neo 2 will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor, which the recently-launched GT Master Explorer Edition also packs. The phone is also said to come with a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with Full-HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

The interesting thing about the Realme GT Neo 2 may be its RAM, which, per rumours, will be 12GB for the base variant. This is an attractive aspect that kind of lures gamers, but I am not sure if gamers would be completely satisfied without the top-notch Snapdragon 888 chipset. Realme's recently-launched GT comes with 12GB of RAM, while the GT Master Edition has a maximum of 8GB of RAM. If Realme decides to launch this phone in India, it will be the second 12GB RAM phone in the GT series.

The Realme GT Neo 2 is also rumoured to come with a 64-megapixel triple camera setup on the back and it may include an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 2-megapixel third camera, the purpose of which is not clear. A 3C listing of the Realme GT Neo 2 hinted at 65W fast charging on the battery, which, according to rumours, is going to be 5000mAh in capacity. The phone will run Android 11 software with Realme UI 2.0 on top.

Realme will unveil the full specifications of the GT Neo 2 at the launch event, and that is also when we will find out about the price of the phone and whether or not the company has plans to introduce the phone to global markets.
