Sony has launched a new camera optic in India, today, as part of its E-mount lens line-up. The new lens is an ultra-wide angle FE 14mm F1.8 G Master lens which allows users to capture landscapes and architecture among other things.
The lens offers a quiet autofocus (AF) with minimal vibration for video content creators. This can help them in smooth focus transitions. The AF capabilities of the lens have been achieved using two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors. In order to bring control options for users, the optic comes with a focus hold button, a focus mode switch, and a focus ring. For added customization, several functions can be assigned to the focus hold button from the camera body interface. The FE 14mm F1.8 GM also features Linear Response MF for direct and precise manual focusing.
Sony FE 14mm F1.8 GM lens comprises two XA (extreme aspherical) elements, two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and one Super ED glass element. Together, these elements ensure excellent resolution throughout the image, reduced chromatic aberration, and better contrast. Made of a 9-blade circular aperture mechanism, the lens also boasts nano AR coating II to subdue flare and ghosting.
A dust and moisture resistant design of the lens should help users in shooting under challenging conditions. The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants. The rear element is also fluorine coated to keep that surface clean when changing the rear filter. The lens also has a built-in petal hood that blocks extra light which may cause flare and ghosting.
The FE 14mm F1.8 GM lens is said to produce "beautiful bokeh at F1.8, even with an ultra-wide 14mm focal length. With a 0.25m minimum focus distance, the FE 14mm F1.8 GM offers expanded possibilities for close-up still and video shooting and creates stunning bokeh known to Sony's G Master premium series of lenses." The lens is compact and light in weight, weighs around 460 grams.
For the price, Sony FE 14mm F1.8 GM lens can be purchased in India for Rs 1,62,990. The lens will be available across all Sony Centers, Alpha Flagship stores, major electronic stores as well as the company's official website. Users can grab their hands on the lens from 20th May onwards.
