Truecaller has announced new features for its Android users. Adding to its list of services, the app will now let users conduct group voice calls, as well as better, manage their messages through the app.
For this, Truecaller has introduced a total of three new features - group voice calling, smart SMS and inbox cleaner. The company says that all of these features were worked upon following user feedback and are meant to enhance the user experience of its app.
As for the features, the names are self-explanatory for all. Group voice calls will let Treucaller users on Android make cross-border voice calls with up to eight people simultaneously. Smart SMS comes as a package of new abilities designed to better organise the messages of users. Inbox cleaner will let users free up space on their phone by removing unused messages.
Here is a look at how each of these functions works.
Group voice calls - the new option comes as an enhancement to Truecaller Voice Calls. Users of the app will be able to add up to eight participants to a call. Interestingly, Truecaller will also help identify spam users in the group if they were added without the user's knowledge.
Users will also be able to add new participants to a group voice call without adding them to their phonebook. Truecaller will also reflect each participant's city In an ongoing call and this will be visible to all people in the call.
When initiating a call, Truecaller will indicate when another user is busy in another call or offline. The company says that the feature does not compromise on the voice clarity noted in general voice calls and is secured with symmetric encryption.
Users will also have a dial back option from call logs to manage the group (including adding or removing participants) when dialling them back.
Smart SMS - This is an attempt to enhance the SMS experience of Truecaller users. With new smart SMS, Truecaller will now identify and categorise spam SMS received by a user, just like it does for voice calls.
The company says that the feature is an evolution to the SMS engine that it already uses to filter out spam and categorise useful information like payment reminders. It states that the SMS intelligence is built into the app itself and can thus work offline.
This feature is currently available only to users in India, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. It will soon be available in the US, Sweden, Malaysia, Indonesia and Egypt.
Inbox cleaner - Much like any other cleaner app for smartphones, Inbox cleaner will help users clear out their old, unwanted messages easily. The feature will show old OTPs and spam SMSes through a single click so the users can delete them in bulk to free up their smartphone storage.
Truecaller says that a typical user can expect to delete hundreds or thousands of messages from the inbox on the first run. The feature is designed to run in the background so users can carry on with other tasks while cleaning up space on their phones.
