Vivo has officially announced it latest take on Android, the OriginOS. The operating system will replace the company's FuntouchOS and bring with itself visual and performance-related upgrades.

Because the new skin comes as a complete remodel of the previous FuntouchOS from the company, it not only looks and feels fresh but also offers new features when compared to Vivo's previous OS. But a quick look at the feature list suggests the biggest updates have been introduced in the performance department.

This is because OriginOS has been announced to come with the latest Multi-Turbo 5.0 technology which brings features such as memory fusion, process optimisation, and application preloading. There's also new RAM optimisation technology that integrates RAM and ROM through algorithm optimization. With this in play, part of the idle ROM space can be used for the function of RAM operation, thereby improving performance. Vivo claims this feature will greatly improve the phone's ability to multi-task and open multiple applications.

Additionally, the new OS also brings optimization of system resident processes which reduces the memory usage of 100-200MB system operations. While with preloading, OriginOS can intelligently preload applications that are ready to be opened, thereby reducing application startup time by cutting down cold starts by 40%.

Ahead of the roll-out of the OriginOS on Vivo phones, the company has revealed the full roadmap for the new operating system. In a post on Weibo, the company has promised that over 30 new phones will switch to OriginOS.

However, of note here is that the schedule has been released for Vivo phones in China, with the company still remaining tight-lipped on OriginOS' availability in international markets.
