Vodafone Idea has recorded some improvements in the year 2021 in terms of speed, call quality, and adding new subscribers. For the first time in 15 months, Vodafone Idea has added over a million subscribers in January 2021. The telco has maintained its top position in terms of call quality since November last year. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has now noted that Vodafone Idea gave the highest mean upload speed in February. TRAI counts Vodafone and Idea as two separate telecom companies on its MySpeed and My Calls portals despite the recent merger of Vodafone and Idea -- Vi. The data is crowd-sourced through the MySpeed app and the report released by TRAI shows the average of the data speed samples collected from various consumers of the telecom service providers (TSP)s for February 2021.
Vodafone India's mean upload speed in February 2021 was at 7.2 Mbps while it was at 6.7 Mbps in January 2021. Idea recorded a mean upload speed at 6.4 Mbps in February 2021 while it was at 6 Mbps in January 2021. Vodafone Idea's mean download speed was 9.2 Mbps in February 2021 up from the 8.7 Mbps it had recorded in January 2021.
Vi has been aggressively pushing to bring new benefits for its users in terms of high-speed internet nighttime data, weekend rollover data benefits, and double data benefits to users which are unique to the telco.
While Vodafone Idea recorded the highest mean upload speed, Jio maintained its top position for the highest mean download speed. However, Jio's mean download speed in February has reduced to 15.4 Mbps from January which was at 17.9 Mbps. Jio's mean upload speed in February was 3.6 Mbps while it was 3.9 Mbps in January 2021.
Coming to Airtel, the telco maintained its mean download speed of 7.1 Mbps in February 2021, which was the same in January 2021. Airtel's mean upload speed in February was 4.1 Mbps in February 2021, while it was 4.2 Mbps in January 2021.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released telecom subscription data for January 2021, according to which Airtel added 58.92 lakh new subscribers in January 2021, while Jio added 19.56 lakh new subscribers and Vi added 17.10 subscribers. The total subscriber base of Airtel, Jio, and Vi as of January 2021 is 34.46 crore, 41.07 crores, and 28.59 crores respectively.
