WhatsApp is speculated to be working on a lot of interesting features. The Facebook-owned messaging app is reportedly working on expiring messages feature that has been long-speculated. The feature would let users automatically delete messages after seven days if you turn on the settings. Several times before, WhatsApp was spotted developing the disappearing messages feature which is the same as expiring messages.
As per a Wabetainfo report, the "Expiring messages" feature was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 22.214.171.124. The feature would let users get rid of messages automatically after a set time period if the settings are turned on. In the screenshots shared by the WhatsApp features tracker, it can be seen that if you turn the Expiring messages settings on, your will messages will disappear after seven days.
Earlier, the feature also known as disappearing messages feature appeared in several beta updates. It was previously reported that the feature can be enabled either for group or individual chats. For example, if you switch the Delete Message toggle or expiring message toggle on for a particular chat, you will be able to set a time limit for your chats. In that case, you can make your message last either for an hour or a week. You also have the option to switch the Delete Message toggle off.
It is important to note that WhatsApp is still developing the expiring messages feature and it is not officially available for all users. The feature can however be tested by beta users, who can update to the latest Android beta version on Play Store.
Apart from the expiring messages feature, WhatsApp is working on a "Mute Always" feature that would let users mute their pesky WhatsApp groups forever. The feature was spotted in beta update 126.96.36.199 and it is still under development. Once the feature is implemented, WhatsApp users will get the option of muting their groups not for one year but forever. In the screenshot shared by the WAbetainfo, you can see that there is no mute group for the "one-year" option, it has been replaced with the mute group "Always".
This would be a useful feature for users who are added to too many groups on WhatsApp. With this new feature, users can stop the notifications from coming without exiting the group. The feature too is being developed and it can only be accessed by beta users.
