- Zoom is slated to bring in the Report feature designed for hosts on the platform.
- The feature will help the hosts track down participants who may be trolls or miscreants.
- This feature will generate a report which will be sent to the Zoom Trust and Safety team to evaluate any misuse of the platform.
Video conferencing app Zoom is being used extensively with work from home culture slowly becoming a norm in the backdrop of global lockdowns. Even though the platform is being used extensively, one cannot unsee the criticism it has been receiving for its security features.
The app saw banning from various platforms who cited cyber-security issues. To name a few companies who did this were Google, SpaceX and Standard Chartered. Government of Taiwan asked its agencies to not use Zoom and in the most recent move, Government of India issued a security advisory citing that using Zoom is "not safe."
The app, however, is seen taking steps to improve its ways consistently.
Zoom will now allow its hosts to report participants which tend to create problems on the platform. The change was noted in a blog dated April 19 and first posted by PCMag
The purpose of this feature is that it will not let any user misuse the platform as it has initially been subjected to trolls doing so by "zoombombing"-- that is intervening in group calls or by sharing inappropriate material.
The Report feature will be rolled out by April 26 in the Client version. It will help the hosts track down miscreants or trolls who tend to create a menace.
"Account owners and admins can now enable a setting to allow the host to report participants to Zoom. This feature will generate a report which will be sent to the Zoom Trust and Safety team to evaluate any misuse of the platform and block a user if necessary," the note by Zoom read.
A host can use this platform on the account, group or user level.
"This setting is available at the account, group, and user level and can be locked at the group or account level. This setting requires the Zoom Client version which will be released on April 26, 2020."
Other new features listed by Zoom are:
Setting to use zoom room in the same account as the host: Account owners can now enable or disable their zoom room settings to be in the same room as the host: As per the note, Zoom admins can enable settings to be on the same room as the host.
Create an organisation: Account owners and admins can now link multiple accounts to create an organisation. Once an organisation is formed, the contacts can search for other contacts, chat meets and make phone calls.
Settings to show profile pictures: Account owners and admins can choose to disable users profile pictures if they wish to. Thus the profile picture of that user will not be visible. This feature is available on the group, user and account level. This feature requires the Zoom client version which will go live on April 26.
Some other features listed for administrators in the note were selection of data center regions for meetings and webinar traffic, additional data center details in dashboard, configure cloud recordings password requirements, enhanced encryption, access to call recordings.
