Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu

The Rail minister Suresh Prabhu said the railways need $100 billion or Rs 6 lakh crore in funding over the next 3-4 years.

The minister said the proportion of rail revenue available for investments would rise to 11.5 per cent in the fiscal year starting on April 1.
The minister said that safety, quality of service, standards and efficiency of railways, all have suffered due to poor financial resources available.
"The budget will set the direction of long and difficult road of reform," Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu told DD News ahead of his Budget presentation.
Considered a reformer, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu may lay the road map for attracting private investment for the public transporter.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said that some of the suggestions received from people on social media were incorporated in the Railway Budget.

"It is our concern to deliver better customer services in the next five years," Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said.

The Railways had earlier invited suggestions from the general public for forthcoming Railway Budget.
"We are ready to pay a bit more than the existing fares but the facilities promised should be fulfilled," Ashok Sharma, a regular commuter, told ANI.
