It is a pragmatic and sensible budget within the context of uncertain and volatile global environment.

The attempts to boost rural economy and consumption are laudable not only because it will address rural distress but also because it is one place where we can boost GDP without global pressures.

Tax on receipt of more than Rs 10 lakh is a brilliant step in discouraging dividend stripping and may encourage more reserves and investments of profits into the business.

Increase on excise on certain items is a dampener but the numerous tax sops for middle class are really positive as it will put lot of extra discretionary money in their pockets.

Taxing super rich, giving tax sops to middle class and direct inputs to rural folks is a multipronged strategy to boost consumption so really good for brands and retailers.
