Car sales in January 2023

January 2023 saw a shift in the Indian car market. Maruti Suzuki remained the dominant player by a margin but the rankings have changed. Some of the old favorites have returned to the top. Here is the rundown of India's top 10 best-selling cars in January 2023.

Maruti Suzuki Alto

The Maruti Alto made a strong comeback in January 2023, with 21,411 units sold, a 70% increase from January 2022. The small hatchback has been updated with a new starting price of Rs 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom)

Maruti Suzuki WagonR

Placed at number two, Maruti's WagonR started the year on a high note with 20,466 units sold, up from 20,334 units in January 2022.

Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti Swift maintains a spot in the top 3 spot with 16,440 units sold, down from 19,108 units in January 2022. The sales are expected to boost further as a new version of Swift is expected later this year.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

The new generation Maruti Baleno premium hatchbacks made it to the top 5 with 16,357 units sold in January 2023.

Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon, available in ICE and EV versions, was the leader of the SUV segment in January 2023 with 15,567 units sold, up from 13,816 units in January 2022.

Hyundai Creta

Hyundai Creta is the second SUV on the list and the first outside the sub-4m segment. The car sold 15,037 units in January 2023. In comparison, the company registered sale of 9,869 units in January 2022

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

The new generation Maruti Brezza couldn't beat Nexon but still managed to sell 14,359 units up from 11,200 units in December 2022

Tata Punch

Tata Punch is the second-best seller for Tata Motors. The company sold over 12,006 units in January 2023

Maruti Suzuki Eeco

The Maruti Eeco is the only minivan on the list and enjoys prominence in terms of sales. The company sold 11,709 units in January 2023.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

The Maruti Dzire sedan is the only sedan on the list and Maruti managed to sell 11,317 units in January 2023, down from 14,967 units in January 2022
