Indian-origin CEOs dominate Brand Finance’s top 10 CEOs list. The top rank went to Nvidia's Jensen Huang, followed by Mukesh Ambani, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Adobe’s Shantanu Narayen, Google’s Sundar Pichai, Deloitte’s Punit Renjen, Estee Lauder’s Fabrizio Freda, Tata Sons’ N Chandrasekaran, DBS’ Piyush Gupta, and Tencent’s Huateng Ma

Top 10 CEOs background 

Half of the top 10 CEOs come from tech and media sectors, while engineering and finance are the most common backgrounds for the ones in the ranking

Placed at the 11th spot is Leena Nair, who helms luxury fashion company, Chanel. Only seven women CEOs, including Nair, made it to the top 100 CEOs list

Mahindra and Mahindra’s Anand Mahindra, Airtel’s Sunil Mittal and State Bank of India’s Dinesh Kumar Khara bagged the 23rd, 26th, and 48th spots 

US has the highest
number of CEOs in
the top 100 list

Brand Finance’s top 100 CEOs list mostly features US CEOs. China is a close second, with the next highest number of CEOs. The report had a special mention for India’s performance with total six CEOs in the top 100 list 

World’s top CEOs

Brand Finance said that CEOs are increasingly being held accountable for the commercial and organisational leadership, and are expected to manage the needs and expectations of the companies’ stakeholders

Criteria to be a top CEO

Annie Brown, General Manager UK Consulting at Brand Finance said that there has been a shift in the top drivers of brand guardian reputation due to the uncertain global financial market. Commercial leadership and inspiring positive change have become the two most important drivers of reputation
