The Dubai Loop is set to be operational by mid-2026, marking the first Middle Eastern project by Musk's Boring Company.
Developed with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Loop aims to solve congestion and enhance mobility with a fast, underground network.
The initial phase will span 17 kilometers with 11 underground stations, designed to carry 20,000 passengers per hour.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed hailed the project as a step towards Dubai's commitment to innovative and sustainable transportation solutions.
Musk described the Loop as “wormhole-like travel,” with advantages like weather resistance and earthquake safety due to its underground nature.
Unlike surface transportation, tunnels are immune to weather, including sandstorms, making them ideal for extreme climates like Dubai’s.
The Dubai Loop is modeled after the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop, but will have higher capacity, potentially autonomous operations, and digital ticketing.
Once completed, the Loop will integrate with Dubai’s smart mobility network, including air taxis and autonomous vehicles, as part of the city’s long-term transport strategy.
The underground system will reduce emissions, shorten travel times, and contribute to sustainable urban development for Dubai’s growing population.
