ISRO Chairman’s Statement

S Somanath revealed in an interview with NDTV said, "PM Modi can fly to Space when Gaganyaan Is operational'.

Somanath emphasized that sending the head of state to space would be a significant achievement, showcasing India’s capability in human spaceflight. He stated, “All of us will be very, very proud if we have the ability to confidently send the head of state to space.” 

Mission Objectives

The Gaganyaan human spaceflight program aims to contribute to astronaut training for missions like the International Space Station (ISS), while testing environmental life support and control systems during a one-day orbital flight.

Launch Timeline

ISRO is currently focused on critical missions this year, including an unmanned orbital mission, equipment and algorithm tests, and launch pad scenario checks. The first test flight of Gaganyaan is scheduled for late next year, pending progress updates.

Astronaut Designates

Earlier this year, ISRO introduced four astronaut designates from the Indian Air Force, highlighting their preparation for space missions and their role in advancing India’s space capabilities.
