ISRO Chairman S Somanath outlined India's ambitious vision for its space program at the International Space Conference in Gandhinagar, focusing on establishing a continuous human presence in space.
Somanath highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's steadfast support for India's space endeavours, tracing back to his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat. According to him, Modi's guidance has played a crucial role in shaping the nation's commitment to space exploration. He also said that PM Modi wants India to have a continous human presence is space.
Reflecting on recent successes, Somanath shared that India's goal extends beyond the Gaganyaan mission. The vision includes an Indian astronaut setting foot on the lunar surface by 2040, with plans already underway to achieve this milestone.
Emphasizing sustainability, Somanath discussed the nation's commitment not only to execute the Gaganyaan mission but also to sustain human activities in space. This long-term vision aligns with India's aspirations to play a significant role in space science and technology.
Somanath also unveiled plans to construct an Indian space station by 2035, serving as a platform for Indian researchers to conduct experiments in microgravity conditions. This strategic move aims to enhance India's presence and contributions in the global space community.
Somanath highlighted recent successes, including the launch of the Aditya-L1 spacecraft and the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite. The chairman discussed the future roadmap, featuring the Venus Orbiter Mission, Shukrayaan-1, scheduled for 2024 or 2025, and the launch of the first module of the Indian space station by 2028.
ISRO is gearing up for the Gaganyaan mission with a series of planned tests throughout 2024 to ensure readiness for the targeted launch in 2025. The agency's commitment to space exploration aligns with PM Modi's directive, symbolizing India's aspirations in various sectors, including education, agriculture, communication, and defence.
