Benchmark indices scaled their fresh lifetime high levels on Wednesday, led by gains in banks, financials, IT and metal stocks. Headline index NSE Nifty eventually closed at 22,474.05-level after hitting an all-time high of 22,497.20 in intraday trade. The 30-share BSE pack touched a record peak of 74,151.27 before settling 0.55 per cent higher at 74,086. Top gainers on the Nifty50 platform were Bajaj Auto, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bharti Airtel, SBI Life and Axis Bank while losers included Adani Enterprises, NTPC, UltraTech Cements, BPCL and ONGC.
Stocks such as HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, Axis Bank and Tata Motors were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. Tata Steel and ONGC were the other buzzing stocks on the platform, in terms of volume.
In the NSE 500 index, shares of Tata Chemicals Ltd emerged as the top gainer. The stock zoomed 11.04% on NSE today to settle at Rs 1,178.45. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 30,021.8 crore.
Tata Investment Corporation Ltd shares soared 5% to close at Rs 9,292.25. The company's m-cap came at Rs 47,014.4 crore.
Pidilite Industries Ltd shares surged 4.88% to close at Rs 2,831.55. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 1,44,015.3 crore. Alok Industries, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Max Healthcare and TeamLease Services were some of the other gainers on NSE 500.
Shares of IIFL Finance Ltd fell sharply today after RBI barred the company from disbursing gold loans. The stock dived 20% to close at Rs 382.2 on Wednesday. At this price, the company's market cap stood at Rs 14,580.3 crore.
Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) shares slipped 15.06% to end the session at Rs 1,329.6. The company's m-cap came at Rs 13,133.5 crore today. Capri Global Capital, JM Financial, L&T Finance Holdings and Solar Industries India were among some other laggards on NSE 500.
