Benchmark indices on Wednesday settled in the green, led by gains in state-owned banks, energy, metal and media stocks. Headline index NSE Nifty closed at 21,840.05-level. Top gainers on the Nifty50 platform were BPCL, SBI, ONGC, Coal India and Tata Steel while losers included Tech Mahindra, Cipla, Dr Reddy's, Infosys and TCS.
Stocks such as HDFC Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and BPCL were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. ONGC and Tata Steel were the other buzzing stocks on the platform, in terms of volume.
In the NSE 500 index, shares of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd emerged as the top gainer. The stock zoomed 11.63% on NSE today to settle at Rs 203.95. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 35,744.3 crore.
SJVN Ltd shares soared 11.47% to close at Rs 120.55. The company's m-cap came at Rs 47,373.7 crore.
Jyothy Labs Ltd shares surged 11.39% to close at Rs 481.6. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 17,684.8 crore. Kalpataru Projects International, BEML, HUDCO and IRB Infra were some of the other gainers.
Shares of One97 Communications Ltd (Paytm's parent) fell sharply today. The stock dived 10% to close at Rs 342.15 on Wednesday. At this price, the company's market cap stood at Rs 21,731.6 crore.
MTAR Technologies Ltd shares slipped 8.98% to end the session at Rs 1,744.8. The company's m-cap came at Rs 5,366.9 crore today. Eris Lifesciences, RHI Magnesita India, Procter & Gamble Health and Info Edge (India) were among some other laggards.
