Benchmark indices extended their record run on Thursday, led by gains in energy, pharma and consumer goods stocks. Headline index NSE Nifty closed at 21,778.70-level. Top gainers on the Nifty50 platform were Coal India, NTPC, M&M, Hero MotoCorp and BPCL while losers included Adani Enterprises, L&T, Eicher Motors, LTIMindtree and Adani Ports.
Stocks such as HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank and Bajaj Finance were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. PowerGrid, NTPC, Tata Steel and Coal India were the other buzzing stocks on the platform, in terms of volume.
Shares of Hindustan Copper emerged as the top gainer in the NSE 500 index. The stock zoomed 14.88% on NSE today to settle at Rs 270.25.
Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) shares also soared 12.28% to close at Rs 128. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 25,624.3 crore.
Shares of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) surged 9.38% to end at Rs 417.65 today. The company's market cap came at Rs 59,245.7 crore.
Shares of National Aluminium Company Ltd gained 9.12% today to settle at Rs 128.6. The company's market valuation stood at Rs 23,619.1 crore.
Shares of Bharat Dynamics Ltd fell sharply today. The stock dived 3.83% to close at Rs 1,697.55 on Thursday.
3M India shares slipped 3.57% to end the session at Rs 35,091.35. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 39,530.8 crore today.
Shares of Adani Energy Solutions, formerly known as Adani Transmission, were also among top losers in the NSE 500 pack today. The stock lost 3.41% to settle at Rs 1,022.55. The company's market cap was at Rs 1,14,064.7 crore.
Technically, Nifty has key support at 21,659-21,501 and resistance at 22,000-22,251 levels, said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research) at Mehta Equities.
