Benchmark indices on Wednesday settled with sharp cuts, dragged by banks, financials and metal stocks. Headline index NSE Nifty closed at 21,571.95-level. Top losers on the Nifty50 platform were HDFC Bank, Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank and Hindalco while gainers included Apollo Hospitals, HCLTech, Tech Mahindra, SBI Life and LTIMindtree.
Stocks such as ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Bank and SBI were most active on NSE today, in terms of value. Tata Steel and ONGC were the other buzzing stocks on the platform, in terms of volume.
Shares of Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) emerged as the top loser in the NSE 500 index. The stock cracked 10.27% on NSE today to settle at Rs 147.25. At this price, the company commanded a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 13,130.2 crore.
HDFC Bank shares slumped 8.44% to close at Rs 1,537.5. The private lender's m-cap came at Rs 1,167,344.5 crore.
Steel Authority of India (SAIL) shares tanked 5.4% to close at Rs 113.1. The company's m-cap stood at Rs 46,716.2 crore.
Shares of Network18 Media & Investments Ltd rose sharply today. The stock surged 9.41% to close at Rs 129.7 on Wednesday. At this price, the company's market cap stood at Rs 13,578.9 crore.
TV18 Broadcast Ltd shares jumped 7.83% to end the session at Rs 65.45. The company's m-cap came at Rs 11,220.5 crore today.
