Artificial Intelligence has been dubbed as the most dangerous technology by many experts as it has the ability to do things, which were deemed impossible. And now, AI is redefining the music industry with its recreations and collaborations involving singers like Atif Aslam, The Weeknd, Diljit Dosanjh, late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and more.
A clip has gone viral on social media in which an AI tool was used to recreate ‘Gerua’ song from Shah Rukh Khan’s film Dilwale. But the catch is that instead of the original singer Arijit Singh, the song is being sung by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam.
Shah Rukh Khan had once said in an interview that he wanted Atif Aslam to sing for his film Dilwale. But it could not materialise due to some issues.
Pakistani singer Atif Aslam has sung many popular songs for Bollywood movies like Tere Bin from Bas Ek Pal, Tu Jaane Na and Tera Hone Laga Hoon for Ranbir Kapoor’s Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Main Rang Sharbaton Ka in Phata Poster Nikla Hero and much more.
Last month, a user on Instagram shared a clip of The Weeknd singing the Bollywood song ‘O Bedardeya’ from Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. The catch was that it was an AI-generated version of The Weeknd’s voice.

Instagram creator Amarjit Singh last month uploaded a remix of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s song ‘Dillagi’. But the song started with the voices of Atif Aslam, Diljit Dosanjh and Sidhu Moosewala. Punjabi singer Sidhu was shot dead last year on May 29.

Paul McCartney, member of the legendary band The Beatles, recently said that he will release the last song of the group later this year. Generative AI is being used to recreate the voice of John Lennon. A demo tape of Lennon was given to AI, which isolated the voice of the singer and this can now be used to complete their last song.
AI was at the centre of another controversy in April when a song created by generative AI was uploaded by a TikTok user called Ghostwriter977. The song called ‘Heart On My Sleeve’ featured voices very similar to that of superstars Drake and The Weeknd. The song was even uploaded on streaming platforms but was later taken down after Universal Music, the music label of both the artists, issued a takedown notice.
Grammy Awards also issued guidelines on the use of AI in music earlier this week. The Recording Academy changed the eligibility criteria for its annual awards by adding that “a work that contains no human authorship is not eligible in any categories” of the Grammys.
