The infrastructure in India's financial capital, Mumbai, may not score any brownie points but the city sure makes it worth the while of expats working there by paying them, on an average, Rs 1.40 crore - more than twice the global average of Rs 64.70 lakh.

Given Indians' deference and preference for people of a particular skin tone, the country is fast becoming the golden goose for expats. India is now the second best country for expat earnings, up from third best last year.Of course, a substantial part of that pay package may be hardship allowance - a condescending nod to India's developing country status.

However, in terms of overall economics of living for expats, India still has fair distance to cover. It is currently out of the top 10, though better than China and USA when it comes to expats.Overall economics ranking is determined by an expat's earning prospects, ease of starting a business and career progression prospects.
