What action is the government taking against the surge in air fares seen amid the IndiGo chaos? Seemingly none other than the price cap put in place after passenger uproar. Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, answering questions in the Rajya Sabha, claimed the government is taking a very serious view of the reports and has capped fares into 4 slabs based on distances. Speaking on ticket refunds, the minister gave some numbers – 5,86,705 ticket cancellations till now and Rs 569 crore of refunds. He stated that the learnings from the current crisis “will feed into future legislations.”
