ISKCON Restaurants Shut In Mumbai: FDA Finds Pests, Poor Hygiene & Food Safety Violations

Three ISKCON-run food outlets in Mumbai remained shut after Maharashtra’s Food & Drug Administration suspended their licences following inspections that found multiple food-safety violations. At Hare Krishna Land, inspectors flagged improper storage, pest infestation, inadequate cleaning and drainage, and missing safety records. Govinda’s Restaurant was found with standing water, blocked drains, pest-control deficiencies and poor segregation of raw and cooked food. The FDA says its crackdown targets food safety, not religious traditions such as prasad, bhandaras or langars. The wider drive has seen 37,604 food and drug samples collected in three months, with 15,268 tested samples found sub-standard.
