Fugitive nightclub owners Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, linked to the deadly Birch by Romeo Lane fire in Goa, are finally in Indian custody. The brothers were deported from Thailand and arrived in Delhi on Tuesday afternoon under the escort of an Indian team. At IGI Airport, the Luthras were handed over to the Goa Police in the immigration area, where formal arrest procedures were completed. They were later produced before a duty magistrate at Patiala House Court. The duo had fled to Phuket just five hours after the devastating nightclub inferno in Arpora that claimed 25 lives. Following their escape, Indian authorities issued a Blue Corner Notice and suspended their passports. Acting on India’s request, Thai authorities detained and deported the brothers. Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra face multiple charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail. Investigations have revealed their links to at least 42 companies and LLPs. The tragedy has exposed serious violations, including illegal construction in a No Development Zone, and has blown the lid off an alleged nexus between businessmen, politicians, bureaucrats, and police in Goa.
