Namit Malhotra Shares Vision For 'Ramayana', Signs MoU For 200-Acre Film City In Mumbai

At the sidelines of the WAVES 2025 Summit in Mumbai, Namit Malhotra, founder of Prime Focus, spoke about his ambitious vision for Ramayana, calling it “a story we want to make for the world.” Malhotra, whose company DNEG just won an Oscar for Dune: Part Two, highlighted the film’s global scale and top-tier VFX. He also praised Mumbai’s growing film infrastructure and CM Fadnavis’ support for boosting the entertainment sector. According to reports, Ramayana Part One, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, will feature Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as the antagonist Raavana, Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.The film is set to be a visual spectacle, with a stellar cast and state-of-the-art VFX, promising to bring this legendary tale to life for a global audience. Malhotra also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to invest Rs 3,000 crore in the creation of a 200-acre "film city" in Mumbai. This facility will house a complete entertainment ecosystem, including a Ramayana-themed amusement park, hotels, and residential accommodations, providing employment opportunities for up to 2,500 people. The groundbreaking for this project is expected later this year.
