India, represented by Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish at the UN Security Council, highlighted the urgent threat posed by the illicit trade, trafficking, and diversion of small arms and light weapons, emphasizing their role in sustaining terrorism and armed groups. Stressing a zero-tolerance approach, India called for strong national ownership, coordinated structures, real-time data management, border security, and safe stockpile management. Ambassador Harish also outlined India’s contributions in gender-responsive capacity building, sharing expertise in conventional ammunition management, and promoting international cooperation. India reaffirmed its commitment to global non-proliferation norms, effective implementation of the UN Programme of Action, and collective efforts to prevent the misuse of weapons by terrorist organizations, reinforcing its active role in enhancing international peace and security.
