India has called for immediate de-escalation in the Middle East, raising concerns over attacks on civilian infrastructure and commercial shipping at a UN Security Council debate. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, said the safety of nearly 10 million Indians living in Gulf Cooperation Council countries remains a core priority. He condemned attacks that killed an Indian citizen in Riyadh and flagged recent strikes on commercial vessels carrying Indian seafarers. India urged dialogue, diplomacy and respect for freedom of navigation. Harish also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal for a seafarer emergency support network at the BRICS Summit.
