Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have sharply escalated after Kabul claimed responsibility for armed drone strikes targeting Pakistan’s Nur Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi, including its Command and Control Centre. Afghanistan’s Ministry of National Defense described the attacks as precise and coordinated operations against key military sites, including facilities in Quetta and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Nur Khan, previously struck during India’s Operation Sindoor in May 2025, was still undergoing reconstruction. Fresh damage now raises concerns about vulnerabilities in Pakistan’s high-security zones. Taliban officials also claim a Pakistani jet was downed near Jalalabad, a claim Islamabad has not confirmed, further intensifying regional instability.
