Airport Privatisation: Govt May Cap Bids At 4 Airports To Curb Oligopoly Concerns

The government is considering a cap on how many airports a single private operator can win in upcoming airport privatisation auctions. The government is reportedly considering allowing one bidder to win a maximum of two airport bundles, equivalent to four airports. The proposed rules come amid concerns over the dominance of major private airport operators. Eleven airports are expected to be offered in the upcoming privatisation process, while five airport bundles have already received in-principle approval. The proposed cap remains under consultation.
