India's aviation sector received a double boost after state-run oil companies reduced aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices by ₹5 per litre and IndiGo introduced its new Light fare for passengers travelling with only cabin baggage. The ATF price cut is expected to ease operating costs for airlines, although experts say it is too early to expect a meaningful reduction in airfares. Since fuel is only one component of airline expenses, factors such as aircraft availability, capacity constraints and other operational costs will continue to influence ticket prices. IndiGo's Light fare offers savings of around ₹400–500 for passengers travelling with cabin baggage only.
