BRICS 2026: What India Gained From The New Delhi Summit | Modi’s Diplomatic Wins

What did India actually gain from hosting the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi? Beyond the New Delhi Declaration, India emerged with a more united expanded BRICS, a stronger platform for the Global South and a chance to bring competing powers to the same table. From Modi’s meetings with Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin to engagement with Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, New Delhi used the summit to push strategic autonomy, economic cooperation, local-currency payments, technology, development and counter-terrorism. BRICS also backed greater representation for developing nations at the UN Security Council, including India’s permanent membership aspirations. But major geopolitical conflicts remained outside the declaration. So, was BRICS 2026 a diplomatic win for India?
