BRICS Summit 2026: Modi’s Big Diplomatic Win As New Delhi Declaration Gets Backing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi with a strong message on inclusive global growth, technology and the changing global order. Addressing BRICS leaders, PM Modi cautioned against the weaponisation of technology and critical minerals while stressing that the Global South must move from being a rule-taker to a rule-shaper. His remarks on critical minerals, delivered in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping, drew particular attention amid concerns over global rare-earth supply chains. Modi also proposed a Seafarers’ Emergency Support Network and described BRICS as an “ecosystem for solutions.” Meanwhile, leaders including Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin joined Modi for the customary family photograph at Bharat Mandapam. The major diplomatic takeaway was the unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Declaration 2026, which India says is actionable, people-centric and gives a stronger voice to the Global South.
