Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran spoke about how India has navigated major global shocks, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war and recent energy and fertiliser disruptions. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has focused on managing short-term crises while maintaining medium- and long-term macroeconomic stability. Nageswaran also discussed rural incomes and employment, saying annual data show steady improvement after COVID, while recent monthly trends have been more cyclical. He highlighted government measures aimed at job creation, including employment incentives, labour-intensive trade agreements, deregulation and MSME credit. He said these initiatives are expected to support employment despite global uncertainties.
