A protest march near Parliament that turned violent has prompted Delhi Police to overhaul its intelligence-gathering strategy ahead of major demonstrations. After over 240 police personnel were injured during the July 20 violence and thousands of protesters breached barricades, the force is now seeking 10 specific inputs before large protests. These include details on protesters, organisers, crowd size, mobilisation plans, demands, travel, local contacts, linked organisations, funding and logistics. The new approach comes ahead of the September 5 protest announced by CJP from India Gate to Delhi Police Headquarters. Police say the exercise is aimed at better preparedness and risk assessment, not at restricting peaceful demonstrations.
