EAM Jaishankar On India-Russia Ties: ‘Russia Stood By Us When Our Security Was Under Threat’

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar explained why India’s relationship with Russia continues to be shaped by decades of history. He said the Soviet Union and later Russia stood by India during periods when the country’s security and territorial integrity faced threats. Jaishankar also stressed that the relationship has evolved beyond its traditional defence focus, with trade, investment, energy, nuclear cooperation and space now forming important parts of India-Russia ties. He added that countries assess global issues through the lens of their own historical experiences.
