FM Sitharaman At BRICS Meet: Technology, Shared Standards And People Shape Tax Administration

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the BRICS Tax Heads Meeting, highlighting three recurring themes emerging from the tax track: technology, administration and people. She said the use of data and digital infrastructure can make tax administration more precise, accessible and less dependent on individual discretion. Sitharaman also pointed to governance structures, shared standards and practical tools that can give international tax cooperation a durable institutional shape. She emphasised investment in the men, women and young professionals working across tax institutions, along with stronger relationships among them. Sitharaman said these themes have emerged organically through cooperation among diverse tax administrations working on different challenges.
