Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran spoke exclusively to India Today’s Gaurav Sawant about India’s economic journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047, reforms and the outlook for private investment. Nageswaran credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic stewardship for a significant part of India’s progress, highlighting GST, financial inclusion, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and increased public capital expenditure. He said India’s overall capital formation remains strong at around 33–34% of GDP, while private-sector investment has started to rise in recent quarters. Nageswaran also pointed to global uncertainty and competition from China as factors affecting investment decisions, while noting that bank credit to industry is growing.
