Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi led an opposition protest outside the Election Commission’s office over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The protest saw heavy police deployment and barricading, with several INDIA bloc leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, detained after an hours-long standoff. Rahul Gandhi was seen waving the Tricolour from atop a barricade before being detained and taken to Kingsway Camp. He has demanded a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner, while the Election Commission has said political parties must follow the established process for meetings. The BJP has criticised the protest, while AAP and DMK stayed away, raising questions over INDIA bloc unity.
